Laminated Glass Recycling Machine for Glass and PVB Separation

Waste automotive windshields and architectural laminated glass contain two valuable materials: glass and a PVB (polyvinyl butyral) interlayer. Because these materials are bonded together, conventional crushing can leave PVB contamination in the recovered glass and make further recycling more difficult. Our PVB laminated glass recycling machine uses a mechanical separation process to recover glass and PVB without chemical treatment. The system is designed for waste windshields, architectural laminated glass, and similar laminated glass waste.

The process uses two main stages. First, a pre-pressing unit breaks down the laminated glass and weakens the bond between the glass and PVB layer. The material then enters the glass-PVB separation system, where mechanical processing and screening separate the glass fraction from the flexible PVB material.

The recovered glass is produced as glass cullet for downstream recycling, while the separated PVB can be collected for further processing or sale, depending on its quality and end-use requirements. The complete system can include conveyors and screening equipment, with PLC control available for automated operation and dust collection for a cleaner working environment.

The equipment is available for different processing capacities, including a 3–5 TPH solution for larger-scale windshield recycling. The actual configuration can be customized according to the type of laminated glass, feedstock size, required capacity, and desired separation results. For recyclers processing waste windshields or laminated architectural glass, separating the glass from the PVB creates two recoverable material streams from one waste source and provides a practical alternative to landfill disposal.
