A wood pallet shredder reduces bulky wooden pallets into smaller pieces for easier handling, transportation and downstream recycling. Designed for industrial pallet waste, a double-shaft shredder can process used pallets with embedded nails and metal fasteners, helping recycling facilities reduce waste volume and prepare wood for further processing.

A typical wood pallet shredding system consists of a double-shaft shredder, an infeed conveyor and a discharge conveyor fitted with a magnetic separator. The shredder tears pallets into smaller pieces, while the downstream magnet removes ferrous metal contaminants, such as nails and steel fasteners, from the shredded material. This configuration reduces manual handling and helps improve the quality of the recovered wood. Magnetic separation does not remove non-ferrous metals, so additional sorting may be required if other metal contaminants are present.
Depending on the pallet dimensions, wood condition and system configuration, typical processing capacity is around 1.5–3 tonnes per hour. Common pallet sizes include 1,000 × 1,000 mm, 1,100 × 1,100 mm, 1,000 × 1,200 mm and 1,200 × 1,200 mm, as well as larger formats. Actual capacity depends on the feed material, loading method and required output size. Higher throughput requirements may call for a larger wood shredder and a suitably configured conveying system.
Shredded pallet wood can be used as feedstock for biomass fuel production, mulch and other wood recycling applications, depending on particle size, cleanliness and end-user requirements. For biomass applications, further crushing, screening or contaminant removal may be necessary. Removing nails and other ferrous fasteners is particularly important when the material will be used in downstream equipment or supplied to buyers with strict quality requirements.
When choosing a wood pallet shredder, recyclers should consider the maximum pallet dimensions, processing capacity, output size, metal removal requirements and intended use of the shredded wood. A properly configured system can simplify pallet waste handling, reduce storage and transportation demands, and prepare recovered wood for further processing. For larger volumes or more demanding applications, the shredder capacity and downstream separation equipment should be matched to the overall recycling process.
