How Does a PCB Component Removal Machine Work

A PCB component removal machine separates electronic components and solder from printed circuit boards (PCBs) before further recycling. By automating this pre-treatment stage, the machine reduces manual dismantling work and prepares the boards for downstream processing. The system uses controlled heating and vibration screening to separate solder from detached components.

How Does a PCB Dismantling Machine Work
The process begins by loading circuit boards into a rotating heating drum. An LPG burner heats the drum through a heating tube until the solder melts. A temperature sensor monitors the operating temperature and controls the heating cycle, helping maintain the required conditions for component removal.

As the solder melts, electronic components detach from the boards and fall onto a vibrating screen beneath the drum. Molten solder passes through the screen into a collection tray, while larger components move into a separate collection bin. An integrated exhaust and dust collection system helps control fumes and airborne particles generated during thermal processing. This process separates the material into bare circuit boards, loose electronic components and recovered solder. However, it does not automatically identify or sort every component by type or value. Further separation may require manual sorting or AI-based optical recognition and sorting systems, depending on the required recovery level.

Removing components before shredding can reduce the amount of mixed material entering downstream processing and allow selected components to be recovered separately. The remaining bare boards can then undergo crushing, grinding and metal separation to recover copper and other valuable materials. When selecting a PCB component removal machine, recyclers should evaluate board compatibility, processing capacity, heating control, exhaust treatment and the labor required for subsequent sorting.
