What Materials Can a Spiral Shredder Process

A spiral shredder is designed for bulky, flexible, fibrous, and tough materials that can be difficult to process with conventional shredders. Common applications include used clothing, textiles, FIBC and jumbo bags, agricultural film, PP straps, pet pads and flexible plastic packaging. The machine uses a low-speed, high-torque drive and specially shaped spiral blades to hook and pull material into the shredding chamber. The material is then sheared, torn and compressed between the rotating blades and fixed knives, reducing large or bulky items into smaller pieces. Depending on the configuration, the shredded material can pass through a screen for size control or discharge directly to downstream equipment.

Used Clothing and Textiles
Clothing, fabric scraps, and other fibrous materials are flexible and can easily become tangled during processing. The spiral blade design helps continuously pull these materials into the cutting area for stable size reduction.

FIBC Bags and Jumbo Bags
Large woven bags are lightweight but bulky, making them difficult to handle and transport. Shredding reduces their volume and produces smaller pieces for easier storage, conveying or further recycling.

Agricultural Film and Flexible Plastic
Agricultural film, plastic film, and flexible packaging can be fed into the shredder to reduce their size and volume before subsequent sorting, washing, or other recycling processes.

PP Straps and PET Pads
PP straps and PET pads are other examples of soft or flexible materials that can be processed when their physical characteristics match the machine’s working conditions. The high torque helps handle materials that are tough or tend to become entangled.

The spiral shredder can also process other materials with similar characteristics, including certain ropes, fishing nets, and soft industrial waste. Material thickness, dimensions, moisture, and contamination should be considered before processing, as these factors can affect machine performance. For applications requiring different output sizes, the machine can be configured for approximately 10 mm, 30 mm or 50 mm discharge sizes. The processed material can then be conveyed, baled, or sent to the next recycling stage. For recyclers handling bulky and easily entangled soft materials, a spiral shredder provides a practical way to reduce material size and volume before further processing.
