Solar Panel Frame Removal Machine for PV Recycling

Removing the aluminum frame is one of the first steps in processing end-of-life photovoltaic modules. A solar panel frame removal machine, also known as a PV de-framing machine or aluminum frame removal machine, separates the aluminum frame from the laminated panel while keeping the glass and internal layers intact for further recycling.

The process begins with loading and positioning the PV module. The panel is aligned on the machine so the frame can be processed consistently. Cutting tools then separate the silicone or adhesive bonding the aluminum frame to the glass and open the frame joints. Depending on the machine configuration, the operation can be performed on individual sides or multiple sides in one cycle.

After the frame is released, mechanical arms push or pull the aluminum profile away from the panel. Operators can then collect the recovered aluminum frame separately while transferring the remaining PV laminate to the next recycling stage, such as glass separation or further material recovery. This reduces the need for manual frame removal and provides more consistent preparation for downstream processing.

Solar panel frame removal machines are available in manual / semi-automatic, and automatic configurations. Manual and semi-automatic equipment can be suitable for smaller recycling operations, while automatic systems with robotic arm are designed for higher-volume processing and can reach around 40–60 panels per hour, depending on the module size and machine configuration. The appropriate system depends on panel dimensions, condition, throughput, and the required level of automation.

For larger PV recycling projects, you can integrate the de-framing machine with other equipment to create a complete solar panel recycling line. A typical process may include aluminum frame removal, junction box removal, glass separation, and subsequent recovery of silicon and other valuable materials. For severely damaged modules, a semi-automatic configuration may provide more flexibility during feeding and positioning.
