Aluminum Frame Removal Matters in Solar Panel Recycling

In photovoltaic (PV) module recycling, recovering valuable materials is not determined by the final separation process alone. It begins with effective pre-treatment, and one of the most important steps is aluminum frame removal. After the junction box is removed, the PV module enters the frame removal stage before glass separation. Although the aluminum frame represents a valuable recyclable material, its removal serves a broader purpose. Separating the frame at an early stage reduces mechanical stress on the module, lowers the risk of glass breakage, and creates a more stable feed for downstream processes. This directly improves the efficiency of glass separation and the recovery of silicon, copper, silver, and other valuable materials.

Modern frame removal equipment completes the entire operation automatically through conveying, positioning, clamping, rotating, and synchronized frame extraction. The module is first centered and securely fixed. Two opposite aluminum frames are then removed simultaneously. After the module rotates 90 degrees, the remaining two sides are separated using the same process, allowing all four frames to be removed efficiently without manual intervention. This automated workflow ensures consistent processing while maintaining high throughput.

Module dimensions can be entered manually for standard production lines, while automated recycling plants can integrate a 3D vision system that identifies the module profile and transfers dimensional data directly to the equipment. This eliminates manual parameter settings, enables automatic adjustment for different module sizes, and significantly improves production efficiency.
