Industrial shredders—available in single-shaft or double-shaft designs—are commonly used for the initial size reduction of cartons. Shredded materials are then processed in a paper-plastic-aluminum recycling line that uses hydropulping and mechanical separation to isolate paper fibers from the PE and aluminum layers. Once separated, the paper fiber is recycled into pulp-based products, while the PE-Al mixture can be reused for plastic-aluminum composite applications.

The Poly-Coated Paper Milk Carton Recycling Machine integrates all separation stages into a continuous, automated system. Materials enter through a feeding conveyor and are processed by a horizontal paper-plastic separator, where the fibers are detached from the PE-Al layer. The mixture then moves through a pulp-slag separator to remove impurities and recover high-quality paper fibers. The pulp is further processed by a dewatering machine and filter press to produce high-dryness pulp cakes ready for reuse. Simultaneously, plastic and aluminum flakes are washed, separated, and discharged as clean recyclable materials. Optional dual-shaft shredders improve upstream efficiency for heavily compacted or contaminated cartons.
