The main challenge of recycling mixed packaging is that the layers—usually paper, plastic, and sometimes aluminum—are tightly stuck together. The separate plastic or aluminum can also be processed, such as melted down, to make new plastic items, giving both materials a second use.

For example, in the case of used beverage cartons (UBC) and Tetra Pak cartons, the system can process up to 1 ton per hour. The equipment set includes a Horizontal Water-Type Paper-Plastic Separator, Pulp Filter, Pulp Dehydrator, and Pulp Filter Press. Through this process, high-fiber recycled pulp, aluminum-coated plastic film, and plastic impurities are effectively separated and recovered.
