How PCB Circuit Board Recycling Machines Work

Circuit board recycling machines use a series of physical processes to separate valuable metals from non-metallic materials such as resin and fiberglass. As waste electronics increase each year, this technology allows discarded PCBs to be transformed into reusable resources with high separation efficiency and minimal environmental impact.

The process usually begins with removing large components such as chips, capacitors, and wires. This optional dismantling step helps improve purity and increases the value of recovered parts. After dismantling, the bare circuit boards are fed into a double-shaft shredder, which breaks them into small fragments. These pieces then enter a hammer mill or grinding system for secondary crushing, reducing the material to fine powder. During this stage, magnetic separation removes iron and other ferrous metals.

Once the material reaches the required fineness, an eddy-vibrating screen classifies it by particle size. Oversized particles return to the crusher, while correctly sized material moves to the separation stage. Separation is performed first by airflow and gravity, which divide heavier metals from lighter non-metals. To achieve higher purity, an electrostatic separator is used as the final step. By utilizing differences in electrical conductivity, the machine separates remaining mixed particles with a metal recovery rate exceeding 99%.

Throughout the process, dust is effectively controlled by a specialized multi-stage dust-collection system, ensuring clean and pollution-free operation. Sound-insulated crushing chambers further reduce noise. The entire line operates with a high degree of automation, lowering labor requirements while maintaining stable output.

The separated metals—such as copper, aluminum, and valuable precious metals—can be refined and used again in manufacturing. The non-metallic powder, mainly resin and fiberglass, can be repurposed into insulation materials or composite boards, enabling full resource utilization.
